Food(less) Journey

And you know what that means....FREE RITA'S ICE!!!!!   You heard me right: FREE RITA'S ICE   But it's kind of freezing outside and... Im eating sugar free right now and..... there were snow flurries earlier so.....  this is more along the lines of what I'm craving today....   old coconut oil jar = new Tupperware   A beautiful Spring soup with peas, cabbage artichokes carrots and red lentils. Warm and yum!   Even better: I ate this while walking from work to Trader Joe's. :-)   I'd Like Green With a Side of.... Even though these were baked I still can't help calling them fried green tomatoes. The name is ubiquitous with the feelings they evoke. Long summer days,  big "I dont have anywhere to go" breakfasts with my family, 'accidentally' picking all the big green tomatoes while helping my mother harvest from our backyard garden, the feeling of accomplishmentseeing seeds and seedlings become a meal  for my family and a gift for friends. How could I not love these little beauties? I had just a remnant of my special flours left and wanted to put them to good use. So, I killed two birds with one stone (no i didn't! that is sooo violent) and used the flours to make something I'd been craving since the first green tomato poked itself out of the tomato plant in the backyard. strange angle of the city Okay so I kow this is not the best angle of the city or the most popular. BUT (That was a big but in case you missed it..lol) I love how the slope of the off ramp illustrates the slopes and hills found all over the area contrasted with the apparent flatness of the downtown area. Something about Florence that reminded me of home was this juxtaposition and now that I'm home this reminds me of Florence. But it is something I love about Pittsburgh: constant altitude changing. Driving around you don't always get a sense of how much you are going up and down hill, but when you walk as much as i do you feel the change in your calf's (or is it calves). Bridges just get on already I almost got fussed at for holding up the entry line trying to take pictures. Oops! I'm a photography nerd, what can I say?
