It's raining....Let's burn something

I'm talking about candles you pyromaniacs! :-) Please don't burn any food! It's wasteful and toxic to your lungs. But feel free to burn some non-sooty candles. And by some I mean at least 10 because today it's raining and snowing. Brown Rice Noodles w/ Tomatoes spinach and nooch sauce  Did you know Trader Joe's has loads of veg and gluten free foods? Their Brown Rice pasta is really tasty (when cooked properly..AKA not too long..oops). And the texture makes it a great carrier for creamy sauces. Sometimes dairy free sauces don't adhere to pastas, but not so with brown rice pasta. I'm having a romance with Nutritional Yeast at the moment (Yay b-vitamins!) and one of my favorite ways to enjoy it is smothering pasta. Brown Rice Pasta just sounds so healthy, but who cares about healthy when it tastes so good. Nom nom nom! Random side note... Look how pretty the trees were! This is a few days ago... ...

What to eat when you don't feel like eating...

The list is really long as I often am without an appetite. Who knew stress (and PMS) has good side affects. lol Sorry for the TMI bro! Reaching for carby, slightly sweet things is a surefire way to warm the insides and get some nutrients in. But ive been known to eat a salad topped with protein (quinoa or garbanzoes) and some fat (olive oil and avocadoes please). Single Girl muffin or cupcake: mmm...muffin! Frozen Gluten Free Waffles with pan sauteed Cinnamon Apples: Something about the smell of apples and cinamon that gives me an immediate appetite boost. waffles on a tacky plate On a Final note: Smoothie is a food group.... But it contains a couple food groups making it an ideal "meal" for one not wanting a "meal". When properly made they contain fruit protein veg carb and whatever else you can stuff in the blender. Spring Fever = Understatement

Okay so its 4 more days until spring, but the weather is decidedly summer-like. Im definitely not hating the warm weather, but I'm worried we will have a blizzard in April as payback. Am I the only one worried about that? Probably...lol I really want to pop on my awesome healed sandles purchased in the dead of winter!!! Recent Eats The Health Starts Here Mediterranean Crunch Salad from Whole Foods was out of this world yummy.  Very simple ingredients, but the flavor profile was complex. But more on that in a minute.... Nooched out Quinoa topped with sauteed mushrooms celery and spinach. This was surprisingly delicious dish born of desperation. Two basic elements combined deliciously: Part 1(bottom): 2 T Nutritional Yeast + 1 T Udo's Oil + 1 cup cooked quinoa and a sprinkle of Spanish sea salt stir all ingredients together Part 2 (top): 3 chopped stalks of celery + 1/4 c frozen spinach + 1/2 cup sliced baby bell...

Kale Chips Fresh out the Oven  It's so nice to be able to make my own Kale Chips. Especially since im kinda addicted to them and its about $4 cheaper to make my own in the oven. Here's a fake recipe that gives real results... Kale Chips remove the leaves of 1 head of kale rub the leaves with olive oil spread out on a baking sheet bake for 30 minutes at 350 flipping halfway thru eat hot out of the oven or sprinkle with nooch and sea salt my current fave is cayenne and sea salt  Terra Sweets and Beets Chips  Above are the Terra Sweets and Beets, a blend of Sweet Potato Chips and Beet Chips. Almost Spring?

How can you not think about spring when there are French Tulips around? Beautiful! It's 50 degrees out! On warm days it smells like spring around here.  I had to get out of the office and get some vitamin D. Coat? Check! Soup? Check! Bible? Check! Let's go! I walked a ways away from my office and posted on a bench for the duration of my lunch hour. It wasn't warm outside, but it wasn't the bitter cold of winter either. With soup to keep me warm from the inside out I was quite satisfied Aren't these beautiful? The smell is ridiculously delicious. I stood by them and breathed deeply... Pasta, Chocolate and other lovelies

Hello Precious! Quite a few people have gone veg and gained weight. Why? Pasta is often the answer. Its an easily adaptable but completely satisfying meal with or without meat and cheese. And not that there is anything wrong with eating pasta, but everything in moderation. Also, if you're going to have pasta be smart about it and have a pasta made with Spelt flour. Spelt is a relative of wheat, but it has a good amount of protein and lower glycemic index (aka you don't get a blood sugar spike and crash) Another trick is to smother your pasta....  Smothered Pasta  If you are going to eat pasta often have it be the accent to your meal not the main component. And remember to have another source of protein with it. Protein has hunger satiating properties so eating it with something potentially naughty helps you to eat less. Another favorite sauce is white bean "cheese" sauce. Yum!
